Job Description

FFR works with the children during 9:30 am and 5:30 pm. There are two shifts, one from 9:30 am until 12:30 pm and one from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. You will be required to work at least one shift per day, five days a week.
You will be working with the FFR team in the hospital rooms playing, holding, feeding, and changing the children.

FFR also volunteers on the Maternity floor, feeding and holding the youngest children in the hospital. At this early stage of life (0-3 months), these children should be held by the loving arms of a mother. But for some of these children, the only touch they receive is from our volunteers. Working on this floor requires additional tests, a throat culture and stool sample. Volunteers can get these tests done before coming to Romania or there is a laboratory located near the hospital that offers these tests. The shift for maternity starts at 9:00 am in order to help the nurses with feeding.

We also have volunteers who work with the older children on the fifth floor who have long-term diseases, such as cancer and diabetes. Volunteers play cards and games in the children’s rooms as well as doing art projects and puzzles in the play therapy room, where there is a play therapist we work alongside who helps translate. While it can be a challenge to communicate with the children who only speak Romanian, smiles and love are understood in any language.

If you are interested in working on either of these floors, please make that clear on your application.

In addition we have an ongoing donation project that is often in need of extra hands. Though not mandatory there may be opportunities to help organize, sort, and hand out donations if you are interested.

Firm Foundations Romania is a Christian organization and though you do not need to be a Christian to volunteer, we do expect you to hold a high level of moral conduct while at the hospital.

Medical experience is not required to volunteer with this project. Nor do you have to have extensive experience working with children. The most important thing is that you have a heart to extend love to children in need.
